Robert Maxwell was a Czechoslovakian-born British media proprietor, former member of parliament (MP), suspected spy, and fraudster.

Robert Maxwell cause of death: What happened to Ghislaine Maxwell father?

On November 4, 1991, Maxwell missed a meeting scheduled with the Bank of England on his default on £50,000,000 in loans. Instead, he traveled to his yacht, the Lady Ghislaine, in the Canary Islands, Spain.

The following day, on November 5, 1991, he was found to be missing later in the morning after the last being in contact with the crew of the yacht at 4:25 a.m.

It has been speculated that Maxwell was urinating into the ocean nude at the time, as he often did. Another reason was that he had fallen overboard from the vessel, which was cruising off the Canary Islands, southwest of Spain.

His body was recovered from the Atlantic Ocean and taken to Las Palmas. Aside from a “graze to his left shoulder”, there were no noticeable wounds on his body.

Murder was ruled out by the judge and, in effect, so was suicide. The official ruling at an inquest held in December 1991 was death by a heart attack combined with accidental drowning.

He passed away at the age of 68.
